Sports Business Journal Dedicates Four Articles to Special Olympics in One Issue

The five-page headline, cover piece delves into Evangelista’s vision as he steps into the role of Special Olympics CEO. Sports Business Journal reported,

"In addition to overseeing day-to-day operations, Evangelista will work to ensure that the movement’s mission of empowerment and opportunity reaches the global community. Special Olympics International has more than 400 employees.

"During his first 90 days, Evangelista said he will first focus on listening to and learning from athletes, coaches, volunteers, families, sponsors and partners across regions to gain a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s strengths and challenges."

In addition to the cover, the series includes three articles on:

  • The Special Olympics-Nike partnership supporting the growth of coaches. Read here.
  • The power of Unified Sports® through bringing players with and without intellectual disabilities together on the same teams. Read here.
  • Special Olympics hallmark events, global competitions and the strategies driving the expansion of single sport events. Read here.

Special Olympics Vice President, International Media Relations and Communications Christy Weir has worked closely with Sports Business Journal over the years and is thrilled by their in-depth coverage.

"Media play a powerful and critical role in helping great stories reach their intended audiences. An organization can produce its most successful event to date, but without media presence and coverage, can it truly be considered a success?"

She added, “It’s rare for any media platform to devote extensive coverage to one brand, cause or organization’s news. Today’s media landscape operates around the clock, with journalists and outlets constantly competing to break news, bring in new advertisers and keep their readers engaged. I’m grateful to Walter and the editors at Sports Business Journal to listening to my initial pitch and hearing the bigger story—that Special Olympics is not a sporting event, but a global organization that is working every day around the globe to change the way the world views sports and inclusion. That is an ambitious goal, but a goal that we are achieving because of the support of our partners and the leadership of our athletes.”
