Qing Hui is an athlete from Special Olympics Singapore in the Asia Pacific Region. Qing participates in dancesport, basketball, and badminton. He has been involved in Special Olympics since 2005.
Qing’s favorite part about Special Olympics is traveling for competition.
Qing is excited for the congress in Berlin. He is looking forward to making new friends and learning other about the cultures in other countries.
Qing is employed as an instructor aid at a special education school. When Qing isn’t working or competing, he enjoys craft work and photography.
Qing says that being an athlete leader means being a role model and having the ability to guide others. He says that being an athlete leader also means learning new thing together with other athlete leaders as well as working as a team to advocate and educate other people without Intellectual Disabilities (ID) to know people with ID.
Project Description
Qing’s project plan is to increase inclusion and understanding of the leadership potential people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) have and create more inclusive environments for people with IDD by developing unified leaders. He plans to do this by organizing a day camp for both people with and without IDD as well as a workshop to let students from mainstream schools know about the work that is done in Special Olympics Singapore. Through a human library, Qing plans to have athlete leaders share their stories and invite youth leaders to share their experience and involvement with Special Olympics Singapore. It is his hope that the sharing would create more awareness of people with IDD and that people with IDD would be seen for their abilities rather than disabilities.
