Tanner Nissen

Handball Subject Matter Expert - Des Moines, Iowa

Tanner started as an intern with Special Olympics Iowa in January 2016 and by June of that year, he was hired full time to revamp their games technology as the Sports Information Manager. He is currently the Assistant Director for the Drake Relays, which is known as America’s Athletic Classic, and one of the most premier track and field meets in the world. Nissen was a SO Connect Subject Matter Expert in 2018 at USA Games in Seattle and at the 2019 World Summer Games held in Abu Dhabi. So far, he has worked with the bowling and team handball competition teams, but his sports knowledge and expertise allow the Connect Team to assign him wherever needed with complete confidence. Tanner stated the following when asked how being a SME has impacted him. "The impact that serving as a SME has had on me is two-fold. One, it's challenged me to be adaptable and find new solutions in the moment. But more importantly, it has given me an opportunity to use sport as a tool for positive change in communities." Interests outside of work include playing sports with his son and watching basketball. He is also really interested in sports logos and the aesthetics of uniform design for teams.
