Josh Basile, from accessiBe, had the pleasure of hosting a podcast episode centered around this year’s Capitol Hill Day event in Washington, D.C.
This episode of Inclusion Revolution Radio is brought to you by United. Since 2017, United has been a Platinum Partner of Special Olympics—supporting leadership development and employment equity for athletes across the U.S. United is a proud partner of Special Olympics' Capitol Hill Day and remains a passionate advocate for our mission to end discrimination against people with intellectual disabilities (ID).
Capitol Hill Day is an event in which Special Olympics athletes, organization leaders, Unified Sports® partners, and family members converge on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. There, they speak to members of Congress, inviting them to partner with them to support inclusive education and health initiatives for people with ID.
Josh had the opportunity to speak with Haley Waggoner, Special Olympics athlete and Government Relations Specialist at Special Olympics International. Haley shared what Special Olympics means to her, how it helped her grow as a person and why speaking at Capitol Hill Day is important to her journey as an advocate for people with intellectual disabilities. Along with Haley, Josh also was able to speak with Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski of Illinois and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania about their Capitol Hill Day experiences and what steps Congress can take to support individuals with disabilities.
Be sure to tune into this week’s episode of Inclusion Revolution Radio to hear about our guests’ experiences at Capitol Hill Day and how we can work with Congress to make meaningful changes for people with disabilities.
