Eastern Star Adaptive Skating Program

The Eastern Star Adaptive Skating Program was created to provide individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) access to inclusive ice-skating opportunities. Led by youth leader Zihan, the project engaged 18 participants with IDD and 42 volunteers who provided support, coaching, and developed custom adaptive equipment. Through skating sessions, community outreach, and a documentary partnership with a local television station, the program promoted inclusion in the Beijing community.

The SOG Inclusion Forum

Youth Leaders Godspower I and Isatou led an initiative to increase awareness and understanding of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) at the University of The Gambia. Through the implementation of Unified Sports, they created opportunities for meaningful interaction between university students and Special Olympics Gambia athletes.

Journey of Four Dojos

Youth leaders Lars and Maj developed The Journey of the Four Dojos, an innovative workshop that trained judo coaches on inclusive teaching practices. Through interactive learning sessions and a custom-designed comic strip, the project helped educators create more welcoming environments for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities while promoting inclusion throughout the Slovenian judo community.

Unified Future: Increasing the Awareness of Special Olympics

Youth Leaders Wivan and Salla increased the visibility of Special Olympics by partnering with the Para School Day Tour, an existing program organized by the Finnish Paralympic Committee, and the Mini University Tour. Through presentations on Special Olympics sports and programs, they introduced primary school and university students to the organization, highlighting the importance of inclusion and encouraging them to become Unified Partners.

Inclusion through Cultural Experience, Sex Education, and Sports Workshops

Ziting and Bella Victoria are two youth leaders from China who led a project promoting inclusion in local schools through sports, cultural activities, and education. They organized an Inclusive Sports Day that brought students from the Changshu School together with campus peers for activities such as unified frisbee, art, and music. They also developed cultural workshops and designed tailored sex education sessions to address learning gaps and promote personal safety and well-being.

Nicaragua Includes: Join the Change

Youth leaders Hengel and Fernanda trained educators across Managua, Nicaragua on inclusive education, Young Athletes, and Unified Sports, helping schools create more welcoming environments for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The project culminated in a Sports and Family Festival that brought together students, families, and educators to celebrate inclusion through sport and community engagement.

All for Health

All for Health is a youth-led health promotion project in Hungary that empowers young people with and without intellectual disabilities to become “health messengers.” Through inclusive training, curriculum development, and peer-led sessions, the project builds knowledge, leadership, and healthier communities within Special Olympics Hungary.

Fit 4 Inclusion

Fit 4 Inclusion is a youth-led project that actively brought together young people with and without intellectual disabilities through a series of shared, hands-on activities designed to build inclusion in everyday life. The project organized school-based workshops on inclusion, an inclusive hiking experience, a community movie night, and environmental activities like planting terrariums and creating green spaces.

Inclusion Explorers: Adventures in Unity

The Inclusion Explorers project partnered with a local library to host an inclusive story time event that encouraged kindness, inclusion, and community engagement among young children and families. Alongside the event, the youth leaders created a resource toolkit to help schools and community organizations continue offering inclusive programming, extending the project's impact beyond a single day.

Rising Social Inclusion in the Spotlight

The project aimed to educate family members and communities in Senegal about intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), dispel common myths, and promote empathy and inclusion. Through partnerships with schools, universities, and local businesses, the initiative encouraged greater understanding and acceptance of people with IDD.

The Minority Podcast

The Minority Podcast project highlighted six young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to share their personal experiences of transitioning from school into society through a series of podcast interviews. By creating and publicly releasing five episodes, the project amplified self-advocacy and fostered greater understanding and inclusion for listeners with and without IDD.

Voices of Inclusion: Athlete Stories that Inspire

The “Voices of Inclusion” project elevated the voices of Special Olympics Namibia athletes by documenting and sharing their personal stories through interviews, photography, and video. By highlighting athletes’ achievements, resilience, and leadership, the project aimed to increase awareness, challenge stigma, and promote inclusion across communities in Namibia and beyond.
