The “Siblings Influencing the Unified Footprints of Tomorrow” project focused on empowering siblings of individuals with intellectual disabilities through increasing their understanding, empathy, and ability to support their family members. Through workshops, dialogue, and shared experiences, the project addressed gaps in awareness, strengthened family relationships, and promoted inclusion.

Eco-Inclusion: Bridging Abilities through Environmental Education, Recycling, and Community Clean Up

The ‘Eco-Inclusion’ project educated students with and without intellectual disabilities about environmental conservation, recycling, and community clean-up. The initiative encouraged environmental responsibility and provided students with practical recycling skills, while also fostering inclusion, teamwork, and community engagement. Participants gained hands-on experience in maintaining clean environments and understanding sustainable practices, helping prepare them for future environmental stewardship.

Expanding Unified Sports

Lauren and Isabella developed a project to expand Unified Sports opportunities across Nova Scotia, Canada. By organizing a Unified Sports tournament followed by a celebratory dance for athletes and volunteers, they created an inclusive environment that brought schools and communities together, promoted Special Olympics, and encouraged greater participation in Unified Sports. The success of the event helped establish it as a recurring tournament.

Youth at the Helm: Crafting a Signature Welcome Experience for the SO Africa Regional Youth Summit

Youth leaders from Kenya took the lead in planning and delivering the Welcome Dinner and Entertainment program during the Special Olympics Africa Regional Youth Summit. Through organizing performances, coordinating activities, and engaging delegates, the project created meaningful opportunities for young people to demonstrate leadership while helping to build an inclusive and welcoming summit experience.

Let Schools Play Badminton brought together young people with and without intellectual disabilities in Cameroon through the sport of badminton. The project created opportunities for friendship, leadership development, and expanded Unified programming.
