David Duncan is an athlete from Special Olympics Jamaica in the North America Region. David participates in volleyball, basketball, and football. He has been involved in Special Olympics since 2008.
David has won gold for in the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi. He also won gold in Trinidad and Tobago in 2019 in beach volleyball and Unified beach bocce. Won bronze in the 2017 Latin American Games in Panama in Unified volleyball.
David became the first Chairman for the Caribbean Athlete Leadership Council in 2020 and represented the Special Olympics North America (SONA) region at the 2023 Global Athlete Congress at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Berlin Germany. David was elected as the first Caribbean Athlete Leader to represent SONA as the Chair of the SONA Athlete Leadership Council, which includes Canada, United States of America and the Caribbean. David was selected as the health liaison for the Global Athlete Leadership Council. David was elected as the Chairman for the Global Athlete Leadership Council (GALC) in Washington DC at the Special Olympics International headquarters, a first for an athlete from Jamaica and the Caribbean.
David’s favorite parts about Special Olympics are getting to meet new people from around the world and interacting with people with and without intellectual disabilities.
David is employed with Special Olympics Jamaica as an I.T. support. David is the Chair of the Global Athlete Leadership Council and Athlete Leader for Special Olympics Jamaica. When David isn’t working or competing, he enjoys watching movies, playing sports with his friends, and learning new things.
David says that being an athlete leader means having the opportunity to voice the concerns of the athletes and work alongside the staff of Special Olympics to come up with solutions. David says that as an athlete leader he can also represent and be the voice of athletes in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
