Lai Wei Hang, known as Ray, was born in 2003 and became involved with Special Olympics Hong Kong in 2011. He has demonstrated excellence in table tennis, earning one gold and one silver medal at a Special Olympics competition in Macau. These accomplishments have served as important milestones in his personal development, strengthening his motivation and confidence.
Beyond his athletic pursuits, Ray has actively participated in Athlete Leadership since 2014, acquiring skills in communication, public speaking, and facilitation. He applies these skills by facilitating Athlete Leadership training sessions and serving in various capacities, including as an emcee, an athlete representative, and a member of the organizing committee for Special Olympics events.
In recognition of his leadership potential, Ray was nominated to join the Global Youth Leadership Council for the 2022-2023 cohort. In this role, he partnered with youth without intellectual disabilities and other athlete leaders from different Special Olympics Regions, and they worked closely with Special Olympics International to organize and execute the 2023 Global Youth Leadership Summit in Berlin, Germany.
Ray underwent training to become a Health Messenger in July 2022. Subsequently, he contributed to Special Olympics Hong Kong Healthy Athletes screening events, supporting and encouraging athletes throughout the health screening process. He continues to advocate for healthy living, sharing health-related messages with individuals with intellectual disabilities to promote well-being.
Additionally, Ray manages a YouTube channel dedicated to showcasing his video productions and intends to use this platform to share health information with the wider community in the future.
