Walid Bahrach, age 25, is an athlete leader from the El Jadida Initiative Center in Morocco. He joined Special Olympics Morocco in 2016. His main sport is athletics. Walid has had the honor of participating in Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles 2015, as well as competitions in several other cities in Morocco. Throughout his journey, he has won several medals in athletics: two gold medals at the National Games, one gold medal in Los Angeles, and two bronze medals in Moroccan cities of Ifrane and El Jadida. In addition to athletics, he participated in basketball and football competitions.
His intellectual disability has never been an obstacle—in fact, it has been a key to his growth, helping him discover his inner strength and achieve his dreams through sport. In 2025, Walid was trained as a Health Messenger in El Jadida city, and he developed a passion for inclusive health advocacy. He says his desire to be a Health Messenger was motivated by a need to speak up about the lack of attention given to people like him. Following his training, he emphasized the importance of medical staff having proper knowledge of how to assess people with intellectual disabilities. He spoke at the first major event of the Rosemary Collaboratory Initiative, held on Monday, June 2, 2025, which focused on promoting the health of people with intellectual disabilities of all ages. He participated alongside Special Olympics clinical directors, members of public institutions, health association representatives, and others.
In his free time, Walid likes listening to music or watching TV series.
