Matthew from Macau joined Special Olympics in the summer of 2019. With the guidance and encouragement of his coaches and Unified partners, he began playing badminton with no prior experience and quickly developed a deep passion for the sport. Since then, he has proudly represented Macao in numerous domestic and international badminton competitions, earning several awards. In addition to being an athlete, Matthew also serves as an Athlete Leader with Special Olympics East Asia, where he actively promotes inclusion through events and leadership activities. He has attended Athlete Leadership Trainings in Beijing, Suzhou, and Harbin—experiences that helped him build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and form new friendships. Grateful for the role Special Olympics has played in his life, Matthew is committed to inspiring more people to join the movement, raise awareness about people with intellectual disabilities, and build a more inclusive society where we all walk forward together.
